May was a fun month.
Too much fun! I traveled to Pittsburgh to start working with corporations for their wellness programs (so much fun!), after that, we had a big soccer tournament and end of the season party at my house… and THEN it started the wedding festivities.
My brother in-law got married on the 16th… but between the pre-wedding activities, the out of town guests, and the fact that it was a destination wedding… it was basically 2 weeks of eating horrible and drinking a lot of alcohol. We had fun though, for sure.
But that last week of May, I could feel it catching up with me. I was feeling really tired. Like, exceptionally tired. More tired than I should be. I was foggy, couldn’t concentrate and my clothes were definitely fitting tighter. It was at that point that I knew I needed a good cleanse. I needed to get rid of all the toxins in my body and get a restart.
I have read about all different kinds of cleanses, detox programs and fasts. A lot of them scared me because they were long… like a week+ Yikes! I don’t want to tax my system that has already been taxed all month long. Luckily, there are people out there that agree with me. So, yesterday I started a 3 day detox called the 3 Day Refresh. It consists of 3 shakes a day, plus a fiber drink, 2 reasonable snacks and a lunch and a dinner. I was excited to find out that there was actual FOOD involved in this one as well! It’s definitely not a lot and it is all fruits and veggies, no animal protein.
No gonna lie. The first day was rough. The strange part is, I wasn’t hungry ever… but what I did learn is that I have gained some pretty bad snacking habits! I had to stop myself about 5 times throughout the day from wanting to go to the pantry to graze. Ugh. So not only am I cleansing my system, but I am definitely testing my mental ability to stay away from the snacks! I am only on day two but am feeling REALLY good. No more foggy head. No extreme fatigue. I am really shocked at how well I do feel.
So… this is kind of a throw away post, because I just wanted to share what I have been up to these past few weeks and why there haven’t been any new posts from me. But I can’t wait to share my whole 3 Day Refresh experience with you all. I said I would never do a cleanse, that I thought they were silly… but I am definitely taking that back now. I never really looked at added sugar, alcohol, and refined carbs as toxins… but after feeling the way I have felt, I know for sure I was on toxin overload!
